Trim Levels (Exterior)
Kia offers this Sorento model in two different trim levels. The entry-level Sorento Hybrid is the S. It has 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, roof rails, and tinted rear windows. The S also comes with heated exterior door mirrors and a black finished grille and wheel arches. The EX adds to the S with a panoramic sunroof, LED fog lights, and more black exterior trim elements.
Engine (Power)
Power for the Sorento Hybrid comes from a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder gas engine and a 60-horsepower electric motor. These combine to generate an impressive 227 horsepower. The powertrain works with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the Sorento Hybrid is different from the regular Sorento in that it only comes with front-wheel drive.
Performance
The large electric motor and the 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery produce lots of torque off the line and provides the Sorento with the power to quickly get up to highway speeds. The electric motor easily propels this SUV at highway speeds and helps it to achieve fuel economy ratings of up to 35 mpg when driving on the highway and 39 mpg in the city. When equipped with the tow hitch, the Sorento Hybrid can tow up to 1,653 pounds.
Interior
The three rows of seats in the Sorento Hybrid provide seating for up to seven. All three rows have room for adults to sit comfortably, and with all the seats up, the cargo area has 12.6 cubic feet of space. Folding both back rows down opens the cargo area up to 75.5 cubic feet. Standard cabin features include simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The entry-level Sorento Hybrid has an impressive list of standard tech features. It comes with an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker stereo system, and the EX adds to this with a wireless phone charger.
Safety Features
Every Sorento Hybrid comes with a full suite of advanced driver safety aids. It includes a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, lane-keep assist, and a driver attention monitor that sends an alert if it detects that the driver is becoming tired. It also comes standard with forward-collision warning with an automatic emergency braking system and a rear occupant alert feature that makes sure the driver remembers to check the back seat for kids or pets before walking away. The EX adds to this safety equipment with adaptive cruise control, front parking sensors, and an enhanced forward collision mitigation system that will recognize pedestrians and cyclists.
