Trim Levels (Exterior)
The base K5 is the LX. It comes with 16-inch wheels and LED headlights. A step up to the LXS adds keyless entry, upgrades in the cabin, and more safety features, while the GT Line has 18-inch wheels and fog lights. Kia offers several packages for the GT Line with options available such as LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, gloss-black exterior trim elements, and integrated turn signals in the exterior mirrors. The upscale EX adds a panoramic sunroof, and the sporty GT has a sport-tuned suspension, 19-inch wheels, and upgraded brakes.
Engine (Power)
The standard engine for the 2021 K5 is a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder gas engine that puts out 180 horsepower. Kia pairs it with their eight-speed automatic transmission, and it comes standard with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional for all the K5 trims except the GT, which has a 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder that generates 290 horsepower and gets 311 pound-feet of torque. This engine uses a dual-clutch eight-speed transmission.
Performance
The K5 offers a smooth and supple ride, and even the base engine has the power to quickly get the sedan up to highway speed. The optional 2.5-liter has extra pep, getting up to 60 mph in a swift 5.2 seconds. The strong brakes that come with the GT will stop the K5 from 70 mph in about 163 feet.
Interior
This Kia has plenty of room for all five passengers. Cloth upholstery comes standard, along with dual-zone automatic climate control. The GT Line has cloth and simulated leather upholstery, and it has a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The EX model adds heated and ventilated front seats, full faux leather upholstery, and climate vents in the back seat. Sport front seats are an added feature you get in the GT, and optional features for the K5 depending on the trim include a heated steering wheel, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and a power-adjustable driver's seat with memory settings.
The technology you'll get with the K5 includes an 8-inch touch screen, with the option for a 10.25-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB ports, and a six-speaker stereo system. Wireless charging comes with the EX, and some trims offer an upgraded stereo system.
Safety Features
Every K5 comes with forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver attention warning feature. The LXS adds a rear-passenger safe exit system and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and the EX adds to all of this with rear parking sensors. Kia offers more advanced safety systems as options, including adaptive cruise control, an enhanced lane-keeping assist system, and enhanced front and rear collision avoidance systems.
